A Loss...

A client and special person passed away a few days ago.

She was not in good health and I had been asked to assist in helping her sort through her paperwork.  The office was covered in literally stacks of papers.  She did not allow me to throw any thing away with out her looking at it.  She would not allow me to move anything from its place. This included a will that is sitting on the floor to the right of her closet.  It may look like a piece of trash if someone did not know it held critical papers.

She and I were going to start the process of allowing me to gather the paperwork that was critical.  Now it is too late.   It will be tough for the Exector and others to really know the critical things to be dealt with.

Don't put it off- get all that important stuff done....

Holidays
Holidays have been crazy for me...

Family time has been wonderful.  But this Christmas has made me take pause.

I have been assisting a friend in Florida handle her medical decisions and qualify for Medicare.  We have to "spend down" her assets, rent her home, sell or store her belongings and find all her important documents to allow her to get the application completed for Medicaid.

Planning ahead is critical.  I hope that my skills in organizing documents can help people who need assistance getting documents together to qualify for assistance of any kind.

Business Business Business...Is it a good time to start a Business!
I have had the pleasure this past few weeks of working with a small start up business.  We have created and written procedures, HR Manuals, learned new industry specific software, trained staff and made the place run smoothly....

What fun it has been to work with these great people who in these crazy times have had the courage to open up a new shop....

By the way, if you need an honest car repair place in the Charlotte Area give me a call!

Clean out your old documents- whoever you are!

I was at a Seminar- Living in Primetime -in Charlotte.  The attorney who was speaking gave hints at to how to manage and prepare for retirement and Living in Primetime.

One of the things the Attorney mentioned was clean out old documents, insurance policies and canceled investment vehicles.  I thought this was  a good idea.

Now I know it is a good idea!  Please do this.  I am the Agent under a Power of Attorney, I am going through documents.  Many documents.  Insurance documents and other investment papers are up to 10 years old.  I am spending time to figure out what is valid and what is still in force.  It is time consuming and can be confusing.

This applies to both Business and Individuals.  Clean it up.  Keep up to date documents and SHRED the rest.

But, don't throw out those tax returns!  Keep them as long as you think necessary. Talk to your accountant to see how long you need to keep the information.
